Bethesda Health Physician Group Welcomes Breast Surgeon, L. Raúl Arroyo, M.D.

A Fellowship-trained breast surgeon, L. Raúl Arroyo, M.D., F.A.C.S., specializes in all aspects of breast health including: benign breast disease; high risk and hereditary breast cancer; multidisciplinary approaches to the treatment of breast cancer; and breast reconstruction.

After earning his B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, Dr. Arroyo earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He went on to complete his Residency in General Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital and to complete a
Microsurgery Research Fellowship in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1994. He was the Chief Resident in General Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia from 1995-1996.

Dr. Arroyo has been in practice for 20 years. He served as the Medical Director of the Jupiter Medical Center Breast Cancer Liaison Program, and, in addition, served as the Interim Medical Director of the Comprehensive Breast Health Program. He was also the Director of the Kristen Hoke Breast Cancer Clinic at Jupiter Medical Center.

Dr. Arroyo left his Jupiter practice in 2017 to become a Fellowship-trained breast surgeon at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York. This advanced training increased his experience in the most recent breast oncology surgical techniques such as Hidden Scar surgery and Oncoplastic surgery, which allow for cancer surgery with improved cosmetic outcomes.

In addition, he gained experience in the implementation of the multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer, a model which he will further develop as a member of Bethesda Health Physician Group in keeping with the vision of our affiliate institution, the Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Arroyo’s vision is to provide world-class breast cancer care in a patient-centered and patient-empowering atmosphere within a community setting so that the patients can feel assured they are receiving the best care available while remaining close to home.

Dr. Arroyo is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and he is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
